Water butt filters remove particles at different points in a rainwater system. A downpipe filter catches debris before it enters the butt, while a pump-discharge filter treats water leaving the pump. But they are not water purifiers. Understanding their limits helps you use stored rainwater safely and avoid over-relying on a simple mesh.

What a water butt filter removes
