RTK robot mowers use satellite positioning with correction data to navigate more precisely than ordinary standalone GPS. For a garden installation, that creates two checks: can the mower receive usable positioning signals, and can it receive the correction information required by its system?

Survey the whole mowing route
An open patch in the centre of the lawn does not establish coverage everywhere. Walk beside buildings, under broad trees, through narrow links and around tall hedges. These are the places where a positioning system may face a more difficult view of the sky.
Read the exact model’s planning guide. Husqvarna’s EPOS guidance explains that buildings and trees can obstruct satellite signals, and that different models handle weak coverage differently. A camera-assisted model and a model relying on satellites alone should not be assumed to behave identically.
Check how corrections arrive
Some installations use a local reference station; others can receive correction data through a supported network or cloud service. Confirm what is available for the model and your location. A Wi-Fi or mobile connection may be needed for more than app notifications.
Where a reference station is required, its mounting position must meet the manufacturer’s instructions for sky view, power and communication. Do not invent a mounting height from another brand’s manual. Keep installation and maintenance access practical and use suitable help for work at height.
Treat docking as its own area
The mower must be able to approach and leave the charging station reliably. The point where it establishes its position may be in front of the dock rather than directly on it. Check the model’s clearances, approach route and positioning requirements together.
A convenient electrical socket under a dense tree does not automatically make a good docking site. Follow the power-supply instructions and protect cables using the specified arrangement. Do not modify the low-voltage cable or power supply without manufacturer approval.
Ask about weak-signal behaviour
Find out whether the mower stops, uses another navigation method or supports a specific supplementary installation. The answer can differ between model versions and firmware. A statement that a brand offers vision assistance does not mean every machine in its range has it.
Mark suspected weak areas on a garden sketch and ask a dealer to assess them before purchase where uncertainty is significant. A practical site check is more useful than buying a system on the assumption that stronger Wi-Fi will solve an obstructed satellite view.
Verify boundaries after setup
Follow the mapping process, then observe the mower near edges, exclusion zones and passages. Keep all required physical barriers around hazards. RTK positioning is not a substitute for the safety measures in the manual.
Keep a record of changes to trees, structures and wireless coverage that might explain later interruptions. Review the installation if reliability changes, rather than repeatedly moving virtual boundaries closer to a hazard to keep the mower running.
