A robot lawn mower can work in some gardens with trees, but the answer depends on its navigation system and the site. Satellite-based models need usable sky visibility; boundary-wire and camera-based systems have different requirements. Ask the supplier to assess the areas beneath your trees, rather than assuming every wire-free mower will behave alike.

What actually guides this model?

Start with the exact model and installation method. Find out whether boundaries depend on a physical wire, corrected satellite positioning, cameras or a combination of sensors. A camera advertised for obstacle detection may not provide navigation when satellite reception is weak.

Husqvarna’s EPOS guide describes camera assistance on selected models and Support by Wire on some others. Neither feature applies to every Automower, let alone every robot mower. Ask for the current compatibility information and the conditions under which the supplementary system can operate.

Will it work beneath the actual canopy?

Mark broad tree crowns, overhanging branches and narrow grass corridors on a garden sketch. Buildings and tall hedges beside trees can make the positioning problem more difficult. Check the manufacturer’s clearance diagrams for the selected system.

What happens when positioning is lost?

Map exposed roots and hazards using the model’s permitted exclusion method and maintain its required physical barriers. A transport path still needs reliable navigation; turning the blades off does not solve a signal obstruction.

How does correction data reach the mower?

For satellite systems, distinguish reception from the sky from the correction-data connection. A cloud-based installation may require reliable Wi-Fi or mobile coverage throughout the working area. A compatible local reference station may provide corrections without internet for navigation, but needs its own approved position and communication coverage.

A Wi-Fi extender may solve an identified network coverage problem. It cannot remove a tree’s obstruction of satellite signals. Confirm the relevant network band, power supply and outdoor suitability before buying extra equipment.

Can the dock and the tree area both be served?

The charging station and the point where a mower establishes its position can have different requirements. Check the approach route, sky view, clearances and power installation together. Do not move the dock beneath a canopy simply because a socket is convenient.

Finally, consider the ground beneath the trees. Roots, fallen branches, cones and uneven or muddy ground can affect mowing even when navigation works. Keep the route clear, inspect for wildlife and adjust schedules to grass growth. Leave an unsuitable patch outside the robot’s working area and maintain it separately if that is the more reliable arrangement.
